GIRLPOWER Series| Ella Medupin

Hey beautiful people! I’m writing this post lying on my couch with the harmattan severely dealing with my lips, How’s the harmattan treating you guys? Today’s post is part of the GIRLPOWER series to empower creatives out there reading this! Today we have Ella Medupin, Natural hair blogger who blogs on about getting healthy natural hair without exceeding your budget.

I got attracted to her blog the first time I visited it and I binge-read probably all her posts. Yeah you guessed right, I have natural hair which would make it’s debut on the blog very soon and I absolutely loved the way all her techniques seemed affordable and actually doable!

Learn more about her below,

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?

Hi guys.. My name is Ella Medupin. I’m 22 years old and I’m a computer scientist with a natural hair and beauty blog. I own a wig making business which was born out of my love for DIYs and I also host a quarterly wig making workshop. “Get wigged”. My blog ( is really self explanatory. I did my first big chop while I was still in school so I couldn’t really afford product junking which is quite popular in the natural hair community. So I started to device ways to care for my hair and make it healthy on a budget and decided to share it with other people through the blog and it’s  quite a journey been so far.

2. How would you describe your blogging style?

I’ll say my blogging style is minimal and unique. I write from my experiences and point of view. So it makes me relatable to my readers. Nobody wants to keep reading the same thing in 1 million different ways.

3. When did you first get into blogging and what inspired you?

I started blogging in August of 2015 and as for what inspired me, I just thought people might want to read from the natural girl on a budget because I was sure quite a number of people were worried about going natural due to the expenses.

4. How do you manage time to run your blog efficiently?

I try not to put too much pressure on myself and I mostly just scribble down ideas while I’m on the move or during the day and then put them together right before I go to bed. That’s how I’m able to wing it. I try to draw inspiration from the Internet and people I interact with.

5. What has been the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?

Hmm my most challenging moment was when my phone got stolen. I use it to the pictures for the blog and I’ve just felt so incompetent without it.. I’ve also gotten a little busy trying to grow my business so it’s been tough juggling that and creating content for my blog but I try.

6. Have you met anyone interesting on your blogging journey? If so, please tell us about the encounter?

I’ve met quite a number of interesting bloggers at events, blog meets and co and we’ve become quite friendly. But so far, meeting a co blogger, Alex has been quite memorable. We had mutual friends, read each other’s blog till we met at an event some time this year. Now we co host the wig making work shop and it’s been great!

7. What would you say is the biggest challenge of blogging?

The biggest challenge of blogging has to be content creation. Every post has to be unique and refreshing. As well as staying consistent. This could be challenging sometimes.

8. Could you give some advice for the newbie bloggers in the house?

My advice for new bloggers is that you have to be open to new ideas. Be willing to learn from other successful bloggers and also stay true to yourself. Do what you need to do to stand out to your readers because there are thousands of blogs out there and you need to give your readers a reason to come back.

9. How old is your hair?

My hair is 16 months old. Big chopped 1st of September, 2015.

10. Are you a product junkie? What are the products you swear by?

I’m definitely not a product junkie! But I’m super fond of my  leave in conditioner and my Shanyi organics hair milk.

This was such a great read! I love that Ella seeks to provide natural hair tips on a budget and how it developed as a personal need of hers when in school. Many of us know through Pinterest and other social media channels that haircare can be affordable, but it can be hard to know what products to use and what ingredients to mix to get those optimal results we’re looking for, so it’s great that she’s filling this void. Thanks so much for introducing Ella to us, she’s beautiful! I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week, girlie!

She’s beautiful and I love her hair! I agree with her too, one of the biggest challenges of blogging is being able to stand out with amazing content. As she noted though, we must be willing to always improve ourselves. Nice interview. Compliments girl.
