GIRLPOWER Series| Anthonia Okonji of Thonia Bankz

Hey Lovelies, How was your weekend? Mine was pretty drab as I spent 99.99 percent of my time preparing for examinations which are currently ongoing. This week is so jam packed for me as  have examinations from Monday to Saturday but this post has been procrastinated way too long not to be posted today.. So today, I’m so excited to be having the first post n the GIRLPOWER series since my blog lost its content.

Today on the GIRLPOWER series, we have,…*drumroll*   Thonia Banks. I absolutely  love the way she manages her time switching between working for a bank (we all know how stressful that is lol) and currently updating her blog. She’s definitely a superblogger!

Find out more about her and her hustle below!

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog

I’m Anthonia Okonji of Thoniabankz.com, A 23 year old graduate of English and Literature from the University of Benin. I currently work for a bank, I’m a fashion and lifestyle blogger and I also manage my online store. My blog is a fashion and lifestyle blog where I blog about my personal style, share fashion tips and basically talk about life.

2.  How would you describe your blogging style?

I’ll describe my blogging style as personal because I  share personal experiences and I pass along what I’ve learnt to my readers. So my style helps me become a go to person for answers within my niche of blogging.

3. When did you first get into blogging and what inspired you?

I started blogging in June 2015 and I was inspired to start blogging by my best friend. Okay let me briefly tell you how it started. I was posted to Ekiti state for my NYSC and being someone that’s used to the Lagos life of fun and being around family, I was very bored in Ekiti. I’ll travel almost every weekend to Lagos and my friend now my bestfriend advised that I start a fashion blog because I dressed really good, knew what was happening with trends and all. So he sent me links to different blogs for inspiration and yes that’s how it started.

4. How do you manage time to run your blog efficiently?

Managing the blog isn’t easy at all because you already know how working for a bank alone can be very stressful. I manage the blog by jotting down any idea that pops up in my head in my notepad or my drafts, beg my friends to take me pictures for the blog when I’m free and it’s crazy that most times I post on the blog through my mobile phone while in traffic from work lol. So the most important thing is planning effectively.

5. What has been the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?

The most challenging moment for me as a fashion and lifestyle blogger was when I didn’t have a camera and getting a photographer was too expensive. It was hard to get quality pictures and I made up my mind to save and yes my baby Lucas is here ( weird that I named my camera Lucas).

6. Have you met anyone interesting on your blogging journey. If so, please tell us about the encounter?

I’ve met a lot of people that I’m so blessed to have in my life. Most of them are actually bloggers and I’m amazed that they don’t see the blogging world as a competition rather they help with so many ideas and are filled with positivity. I met Shewa, Alex, Praise at different blogging events and I’m glad I got to meet them and be so close to them.

7. How would you describe your personal style and is there someone who is a fashion inspiration to you?

My style is unique, Adventurous and chic. I’ll also add that it’s very comfortable and affordable. I have a huge fashion crush on Toke Makinwa , Lisa Folawiyo and Rihanna.

8. What would you say is the biggest challenge of fashion blogging?

My biggest challenge is being unable to balance work and fashion blogging. I have missed out great events, meet up with brands because of work. Most times I work weekends and it’s actually not easy

9. What would you say that is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger? (Invitations to fashion events, interaction with people, etc.)

My biggest satisfaction being a fashion blogger is that despite the fact that I’m not where I want to be I get emails from people advising me not to change who I am or my style because I inspire them. I think being a source of inspiration to people is enough for me. It brings me so much joy.

10. Could you give some advice for the newbie fashion bloggers in the house?

I’ll advice that you just be yourself, post quality content and don’t give up. I remember like 5 months into blogging I got depressed about where I was and my blog because to me nobody read my blog or was inspired until I got a mail from a company in the U.S who explained how they loved my blog and style of writing and wanted me to showcase stuffs from their company. Like they were going to send me anything I wanted (bags, shoes , glasses) for free just to advertise. That’s crazy! just be you and create relationships with fellow bloggers in your niche, it’s very important.
